|Lipetsk is the administrative, industrial, cultural and resort centre of area. The city's symbol is an aerial obelisk monument. There is an inscription on its pedestal, saying that the monument is dedicated to Peter I.
There is a central park with a pond, in the centre of which stand a picturesque islet, near the obelisk. Here gush forth fountains in summer. There is a ship monument in front of the park. An inscription on it reminds of “iron plants” establishment in Lipetsk.
Lipetsk is one of the oldest resorts in Russia. A local resort began to work in 1803 on the grounds of regional mineral springs and chloride sulfate water. After discovering chalybeate mud peat here in 1867, mud treatment has been here organized since 1871.
A regional museum, the house-museums named after G.V.Plekhanov and I.A.Bunin are among places of interest.
