19.11.2009 - Cystectomy Newest Technology in Russia
Russian surgeons now perform cystectomy (gall bladder removal) without making patients spend several days in the hospital.
Two patients have already undergone unique laparoscopic cystectomies. New technique provides performing all operation stages via one small 1.5-cm long incision. Previous gall bladder removals were made via either a large 12-15 cm long incision in hypochondrium, or 4 belly wall punctures.
New technique allows a patient to leave the hospital 2-3 hours after operation has been finished. Gall bladder is usually removed, when large stones were detected inside.
Surgeons all around Russia will receive training in the new technique. Operations will be performed free of charge.
