04.01.2010 - Million Rubles for Fakes of Mihail Chemiakins Paintings
A collector from Oryol city had long dreamt of purchasing Chemiakins works. Finally he managed to find two paintings from the series Carnivals of Saint Petersburg.

Both the paintings were offered at $ 33 thousand each, i.e. about a million rubles. However, the worst expectations of experts turned to be true: the expertise proved the paintings were false.

My paintings were also forged earlier, starting from the 1980s the artist explained to the investigators. The artist happened to see fake paintings signed with the name of Mihail Chemiakin not only in Russia, but in other countries as well. In particular, it was in the USA, where he lived for some time.

The procurators office of Oryol city initiated the criminal case on distribution of counterfeit paintings.
