02.12.2009 - Worker and Kolkhoz Woman are Back
The famous sculpture Worker and Kolkhoz Woman, which had been under restoration for the last six years, has been finally set up on its original place.
The official unveiling of the sculpture group will take place on December 4. The Worker and Kolkhoz Woman have been erected on a base by the All-Russia Exhibition Centre in Moscow by means of a special crane. The dismantling, preservation and the six-year long restoration of the sculptures cost 1 milliard rubles to the Moscow budget.
The sculpture composition Worker and Kolkhoz Woman was made of stainless nickel chrome steel by the project of the well-known sculptor Vera Mukhina (whereas the idea of the monument was prompted by the architect Boris Iofan). The monument was first introduced at the Paris World Exhibition in 1937.
